Clinical Evaluation of Severe Preeclampsia in Pregnancy

Abstract
Hypertensive disorders are clinically important because they are associated with
significant maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality worldwide.
A clinical study was undertaken on 413 cases of severe preeclampsia among the 21,134
pregnant women who were admitted to Daegu Fatima Hospital for delivery from Jan. 1990 to Dec. 1992.
@ES The results were as follows:
1. The incidence of severe preeclampsia in pregnant women was 1.95%.
2. Most prevalent group of maternal age was in the age 25-29, its incidence was 21.3%.
lowest group of maternal age was over 40.
3. According to the parity, the highest number of severe preeclampsia showed in primigravida.
4. Among 12 months, the disease was frequently seen in February, March, April,
5. In gestational age, nearly half of the severe preeclampsia was encountered in 37-40 week.
6. The associated deseases were anemia, growth retardation in utero placental abruption, postpartum hemorrhage.
7. The principal method of delivery was normal vaginal delivery, but the rate of C/section in
severe preeclampsia was muck more than non-severe preeclampsia group.
8. Average fetal weigh was lower than those of normal pregnants and 49.2% of the cases were under 2.500gm.
9. During this period, one case of maternal death by severe preeclampisa encountered.
10. The incidence of perinatal complications included low birth weight, still birth, neonatal
death.
11. On fundoscopic finding, the frequency of normal finding was 14.8%, K-W Grade I 47.4% and K-W Grade II 30.1%.
12. In 46.2% of patients with severe preeclampsia, the platelet count on admission were 200,000-299,000 and the group less than 100,000 was 3.2%.
13 The incidence of 2+ or more of urinte protein on admission was 88.2%.
